Deer Creek Campground is located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest at approximately 7,600 feet elevation.
Situated beside the East Fork of the Black River, a popular destination for anglers pursuing wild and stocked trout.
Campsites are nestled among mature ponderosa pines, providing shade and a secluded mountain setting.
A great base for fishing, hiking, wildlife photography, birdwatching, and relaxing in one of the quieter areas of the White Mountains.
Summer days are typically mild, while evenings can be cool. Afternoon thunderstorms are common during the July and August monsoon season.
Wildlife frequently seen in the area includes elk, mule deer, wild turkey, Abert's squirrels, and numerous bird species. Black bears also inhabit the region, so proper food storage is essential.
The recreation area is reached by well-maintained gravel forest roads that are generally suitable for passenger vehicles in dry conditions, though road conditions can change following heavy rain.
Visitors should bring all necessary camping supplies, as services are limited, with the nearest fuel, groceries, and other amenities available in Alpine, about 13 miles away.
Pets must always be restrained or on a leash.
Directions from Alpine: Drive two miles north on US Highway 191 to Forest Road 249. Turn west and follow this wide, graveled forest road 5 miles to Forest Road 276. Turn south and follow Forest Road 276 for six miles to the East Fork Recreation Area.
