Horse Springs Campground is a peaceful, first-come, first-served campground tucked among towering ponderosa pines along the scenic East Fork of the Black River. One of several campgrounds in the East Fork Recreation Area, it offers easy access to excellent trout fishing, wildlife viewing, and the cool mountain forests of Arizona's White Mountains.

Horse Springs Campground is located approximately 18 miles southwest of Alpine within the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests at an elevation of about 7,800 feet. The campground provides a quiet setting along the East Fork Black River, making it a favorite destination for anglers, campers, photographers, and anyone seeking a relaxing mountain getaway.
The East Fork Black River is renowned for its cold, clear waters and healthy populations of wild brown trout and stocked Apache trout, Arizona's state fish. Numerous fishing access points are located within a short walk of the campground.
Horse Springs is a primitive campground with basic amenities that typically include:
Vault toilets
Picnic tables
Fire rings with grills
Trash service (seasonal)
No hookups
No potable drinking water—bring your own water or treat river water before use.
The surrounding forest offers excellent opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, wildlife photography, and scenic drives through the East Fork Recreation Area. Elk, mule deer, wild turkey, black bears, and numerous songbirds are commonly seen in the area, particularly during the early morning and evening hours.
Because of its elevation, summer temperatures are pleasantly cool, while afternoon thunderstorms are common during the July and August monsoon season. Visitors should come prepared for rapidly changing mountain weather, including rain and cool nighttime temperatures.
Horse Springs Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is especially popular during weekends, holidays, and the spring through fall fishing season. Arriving early in the day is recommended during peak periods.
Pets must always be restrained or on a leash.

From Alpine, Drive two miles north on US Highway 191 to Forest Road 249. Turn west and follow this wide, graveled road 5 miles to Forest Road 276. Turn south and follow Forest Road 276 for six miles to the East Fork Recreation Area.
